More about the Thurman family
- David has been busy this year working full time at Starbucks keeping Haywood County supplied with quality coffee.
- Kym's year has been filled with learning the ropes of 5 different schools...one elementary, one middle, one high school...and driving to two colleges to pick up and drop off the college girls! It has been a fun year figuring out this "new" life in the mountains. I have LOVED learning to drive the mountain roads and see the changing seasons. Fall was spectacular...and seeing the fog on my way to Boone was amazing! I am loving watching the kids grow and change!
- Baylee is 19 and as of finishing her finals last week, a JUNIOR at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina. She is enjoying college life and has taken on some new leadership roles at school. She is a student ambassador and enjoys meeting the prospective students and families.
- Jay has been enjoying high school to the fullest! He was excited to join the band to play in the "pit". He has LOVED the experience with the band. He has also gotten very involved in the youth group at the church and has taken on some leadership roles there. He came home one night this fall lugging the set of drums the church had..."no one is playing these mom, so I am going to learn!" (Boy, am I glad we have a house with a basement!) Seriously, we are proud of Jay and his excitement to learn and try new things is contagious and we love that!
- Maddy got her braces off in September and she is really enjoying the new look! She has taken high school in stride and is finding her way....Maddy has spent the majority of the fall catching every sickness that has come to the county! We have been watching her work hard this year....last year in school she was extremely active in Math Counts, Battle of the Books, and Peace Jam. This Year she has just enjoyed getting to know kids and keeping up with her work. Today, though, she is working on the ALL-IMORTANT....Drivers ED! So soon, we will be up to 3 driving kids in the family....whew!
- Walker is on the cusp of becoming a teenager and he is really an amazing 7th grader! He is doing well in all his classes, enjoying the Battle of the Books, Math Counts and loves being involved at church. He helped with the puppets on Wednesday nights and has a heart to help with the children. In addition to all of that, Walker joined Molly this year in the Voices in the Laurel singing group. It is a joy to hear them sing and we are blessed to have a houseful of such talented, loving children.
- Molly grows every time I look at her. She seems to just get longer and lovelier and it is an inside out thing as well. She seems to find her way around the mix of kids well. Not being one of the big kids, but not a little kid anymore could be a challenge, but for Molly, it is an occasion! She loves to read, sing and in addition to enjoying Voices in the Laurel, this winter she took a skiing lesson and 3 snowboarding lessons. She has loved learning the winter sports!
- Ron is seven and in the first grade. He told me the other day that he is the class clown. No surprises there, he makes us laugh all the time! Ron has loved all the snow this year. School is NOT his favorite, but he LOVES the friends he has made! This year Ron got to sing the proverbial "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" song....and someone listened, because they are coming in now.
- Kiley rounds out the list of Thurmans. At five years old, she keeps us all on our toes. She is reading and trying to keep up with Ron, even though she is in Kindergarten. She likes to read his books each night and he reads some of hers...they are as close as can be and fight like crazy! Kiley has loved the winter as well and kept up with the big kids out in the snow!
